Lake Whatcom Center is in search of night shift Home Care Aides or Certified Nursing Assistants. The Home Care Aide is a non-exempt position under the supervision of the Residential Supervisor. The HCA is responsible for assisting the Agate Heights Assisted Living Facility to support the overall care of residential clients. This position provides overnight supervision of residential clients including assistance with medications.

 

We have need for one full time person and one part time person working 10 hour shifts, alternating weekends.

 

An HCA or C.N.A. credential is required to work this position- anyone coming into the position without this credential will be asked to complete 75 hours of DSHS training within 4 months of hire. Any applicant who already has either of these credentials is eligible for a sign-on bonus of $1200.00 payable after 6 months of continuous employment.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Good personal relations skills; ability to work with difficult individuals.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team approach.
  • Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Ability to talk to others and convey information effectively. Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying. Ability to understand new information for both current and future problem solving and decision-making. Ability to give and receive feedback and comments.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires frequent standing, bending at the knees and waist, kneeling and reaching.
  • Requires frequent walking to accomplish tasks.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to be covered by LWC insurance carrier.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to commute in inclement weather.
  • Requires ability to lift 35 pounds safely.

 

 

Job Duties

  • Assist the ALF with the following Duties:
    1. Remain awake overnight and attend to the needs of facility residents
    2. Respond to all requests for assistance, crisis intervention, or incidents. See appropriate assistance as directed (i.e. contact 911 for fire/medical emergency, contact MHP for clinical emergencies).
    3. Assist clients with medications as needed
    4. Assist with laundry including washing and folding linens.
    5. Help to assure that common areas remain in a neat, organized, and hygienic manner. This could include performing such tasks as (but not limited to) sweeping, mopping, dusting, organizing common use items
    6. Other duties as requested by the ALF Supervisor.
  • Perform duties of medication assistance including, but not limited to, medication monitoring, diabetic assistance, and PRN’s
  • Maintain a working knowledge of (and assumption of responsibility for) agency policies, procedures, and equipment, which relate to this position
  • Attend scheduled meetings and conferences, including meet with ALF Supervisor for regular scheduled supervisor.
